Direct answerWhat it is and where it fits

Safety control integration connects protective devices to the machine so hazards stop, remain stopped and restart only under defined safe conditions. The architecture may use safety relays, configurable safety controllers, safety PLCs, contactors, drives with safe functions and diagnostic interfaces.

Where it fits

Typical applications

A project-specific assessment confirms the final design, but safety controls integration is commonly used for:

  • 01Guarding retrofit projects
  • 02Multi-door machine cells
  • 03Light curtain and scanner applications
  • 04Robot and automation integration
  • 05Emergency-stop upgrades
  • 06Safety-related drive functions

Configuration

Designed around the environment and access task.

The physical form is selected after the hazard, safe distance, containment, hygiene and maintenance needs are understood.

Engineering method

How we develop the solution.

01

Specify each safety function

Define initiating device, required response, reset, restart behaviour and fault response.

02

Design the architecture

Select components, categories and diagnostics appropriate to the required performance.

03

Implement controlled interfaces

Integrate with the existing machine control without masking faults or creating unexpected operation.

04

Verify and validate

Test every safety function, fault condition and reset path and document the results.

Project scope

Typical deliverables

Deliverables are confirmed in the quotation so responsibilities and interfaces remain clear.

Technical questions

Safety Controls Integration FAQs

Answers are general; the machine-specific assessment controls the final design.

Can you add safety devices to an existing PLC?

The standard PLC may coordinate status and process functions, but the safety function requires a suitable safety-related architecture. This may be a safety relay, configurable controller or safety PLC depending on complexity.

What is a safety function?

A safety function is a defined action that achieves or maintains a safe state, such as stopping a motor when a guard opens and preventing restart until the guard is closed and a deliberate reset is made.

Do you provide validation documentation?

Yes, within the agreed scope. This can include a safety-function schedule, test plan, results, device list and configuration backups. The exact deliverable is defined at quotation stage.
