Understand the access demand
Determine who enters, why, how often and whether access is required during specific operating modes.
Machine guarding solution
Safety switches, guard locking, trapped-key systems and access stations engineered into doors, gates and panels.
An interlocked guard monitors whether a door, gate or panel is closed and uses that status within the machine safety control system. Guard locking can keep the guard locked until hazardous movement or process conditions have reached a safe state.
Where it fits
A project-specific assessment confirms the final design, but interlocked doors & controlled access is commonly used for:
Configuration
The physical form is selected after the hazard, safe distance, containment, hygiene and maintenance needs are understood.
Engineering method
Determine who enters, why, how often and whether access is required during specific operating modes.
Assess stopping time, run-down, retained energy, whole-body access and emergency release.
Choose the interlock type, coding, locking principle and diagnostic capability for the risk and environment.
Test opening, locking, fault response, reset, restart prevention and any escape-release function.
Project scope
Deliverables are confirmed in the quotation so responsibilities and interfaces remain clear.

Answers are general; the machine-specific assessment controls the final design.
Guard locking is commonly considered where a person could reach the hazard before dangerous movement or process conditions have stopped, or where process control requires access to remain restricted.
Only devices and architectures suitable for the required safety function should be used. Selection includes device type, fault detection, coding, mounting and the performance required by the risk assessment.
Poor alignment can cause nuisance trips, mechanical damage or deliberate defeat. Rigid mounting, suitable tolerances and door control are essential to reliable operation.
