End-of-line automation safety

Palletiser guarding that protects access without blocking product flow.

Palletising cells combine robot or machine movement, pallet transfer, conveyors, load instability and frequent operator interventions. We develop the perimeter, access, transfer openings and safety functions as one system so people can clear faults, replenish materials and recover production safely.

Direct answerWhat does a palletiser guarding system include?

What does a palletiser guarding system include?

A palletiser safeguarding project can include perimeter fencing, interlocked access gates, guard locking, light curtains or scanners, muted pallet openings, conveyor interfaces, reset stations, emergency stops and safety-control modifications. The design must account for empty and full pallets, load height, pallet movement, fork-truck interaction, trapped-person risk and the specific recovery tasks carried out inside the cell.

Where this solution is used

Designed around the machine and the work people perform.

The scope is developed from actual access, process and maintenance needs rather than a standard panel count.

01

Robot palletising cells

Guard articulated robots, grippers, pallet stations and infeed conveyors with controlled access and safe recovery functions.

02

Layer and gantry palletisers

Protect lifts, sweeps, hoists, transfer tables and pallet dispensers while maintaining inspection and maintenance routes.

03

Depalletising and mixed end-of-line systems

Coordinate guarding around pallet conveyors, stretch wrappers, label applicators, accumulation and warehouse interfaces.

Engineering decisions

What must be resolved before manufacture or modification.

These decisions interact. A change to stopping, door use, material flow or maintenance can alter the complete safeguarding concept.

  1. 01

    Pallet transfer openings

Prevent person access through material openings while allowing the intended pallet and load envelope to pass.

  2. 02

    Muting and sequencing

Design sensor layout, direction logic, timing and fault response so muting is limited to legitimate material transfer.

  3. 03

    Access and trapped-person risk

Position gates, locks, reset stations and escape provisions around foreseeable intervention and maintenance.

  4. 04

    Fork-truck interface

Separate vehicle movement from pedestrian access and protect fencing, controls and safety devices from impact.

  5. 05

    Load stability and falling objects

Consider unstable products, broken pallets, stretch wrap, dropped loads and whether containment or exclusion zones are needed.

  6. 06

    Restart and zone control

Provide clear reset, visible status and control logic so the cell cannot restart while someone remains in a hazardous area.

Site and application review

Information we assess.

  • Robot or machine reach envelope
  • Pallet and load dimensions
  • Empty pallet magazines
  • Conveyor transfer and accumulation
  • Muting sensor geometry
  • Fork-truck and pedestrian segregation
  • Access for jam clearing and maintenance
  • Reset visibility and trapped-person escape

Typical project scope

What Oxford Machine Guarding can provide.

Deliverables are agreed before work starts. We can support a defined component or take responsibility from site survey through design, installation and documented handover.

  • Measured cell and transfer layout
  • Perimeter and gate design
  • Pallet-opening safeguarding concept
  • Muting or protective-device integration
  • Safety control and reset requirements
  • Impact protection where required
  • Installation, testing and handover
  • Future format and pallet-size considerations
