System intent
Designed around the task—not simply the available component.
Reset and restart controls help ensure that a protective-device actuation is acknowledged from an appropriate position and that hazardous movement does not resume unexpectedly.
We develop the guarding arrangement in the context of machine movement, product flow, operator behaviour, cleaning and foreseeable intervention. The scope is then defined clearly for detailed engineering and installation.
Key engineering decisions
What the design needs to resolve.
These points are reviewed together because a change to access, stopping or production flow can alter the required safeguarding approach.
- 01
Visibility
Position reset controls so the person can check the protected area or use an additional occupancy-control method.
- 02
Separate actions
Distinguish safety reset from production start where the application requires separate acknowledgement.
- 03
Whole-body access
Use additional measures where someone could remain inside the safeguarded space unseen.
- 04
Mode control
Define reset behaviour for automatic, manual, teach and maintenance modes.
Application review
Design considerations.
- Line of sight into the safeguarded area
- Multiple doors or access zones
- Possibility of a person being trapped inside
- Remote HMI and network commands
- Power restoration and fault recovery
- Clear labelling and operator understanding
Typical project output
What can be included in the scope.
The precise deliverables are agreed before work proceeds and depend on whether the project covers mechanical guarding only or an integrated safety-system modification.
- Reset/restart functional definition
- Control-station position review
- Button, indicator and enclosure selection
- Safety-logic integration
- Access and restart testing
- Operator information and records
