Direct answerSector safeguarding approach

Plastics processing combines hot surfaces, clamping forces, rotating equipment, material feed and automated part handling. Guarding must account for heat, purging, maintenance and the interfaces between the primary machine and downstream equipment.

Hazard profile

Common safeguarding challenges

  • Mould-closing and clamping movement
  • Hot barrels, dies and material
  • Extrusion and haul-off equipment
  • Granulators and rotating cutters
  • Robot take-out systems
  • Conveyors and downstream trimming

Applications

Equipment we can support

  • Injection moulding cells
  • Extrusion lines
  • Blow moulding systems
  • Granulators
  • Robot part handling
  • Trimming and assembly

Design priorities

What shapes the solution

  • Heat-resistant separation
  • Access for mould and die changes
  • Controlled purge and cleaning tasks
  • Integration across machine boundaries
  • Visibility of material flow

From machine to complete line

Combine physical guarding, controlled access and safety integration.

We can support a single access point, a machine retrofit or a coordinated safeguarding project across multiple items of equipment.

Application-specific priorities

Guarding injection moulding, extrusion and plastics handling

Plastics machinery combines clamps, screws, heaters, robots, material feeds and downstream handling. Access requirements vary between mould change, purge, trimming, take-out and routine production, so a single generic fence detail is rarely enough.

01

Clamp and mould area

Control crushing and stored-energy hazards while providing planned access for mould and tool work.

02

Hot material and process hazards

Consider burns, pressure, purge, fumes and ejection alongside mechanical movement.

03

Robot and conveyor interfaces

Coordinate take-out robots, granulators, conveyors and guarding openings as one system.

Sector questions

Plastics & Polymer Processing Guarding FAQs

Can guarding withstand heat near an extruder?

Yes, with materials, spacing and ventilation selected for the local temperature and process. Hot-surface risk may also need insulation or dedicated shields.

Can robot take-out areas be added to existing moulders?

Yes. The cell boundary, machine interface, access gates and restart logic should be reviewed as one system.

Can granulator noise be reduced by guarding?

A safety enclosure may contribute to noise control, but acoustic performance requires specific materials, sealing and ventilation design beyond basic guarding.
